Sketchy Selfcare offers creative self-care art groups, workshops and events using art as a self-care tool to empower, connect and cultivate self-love.

My mission with Sketchy Selfcare is to share what I have discovered through my own creative self development journey and a life long love of art, design and creativity.  Sketchy Selfcare brings together a community of empowered artists of all ages.  I believe in the awesome power of art to heal, connect, empower and bring more joy into the world.

My message is to give yourself permission to make art and get creative without judgement or a desired outcome, but for the process, connection and self expression.

WHAT IS CREATIVE SELF CARE & CONNECTION THROUGH ART?

Creative self care is a wonderful gift, a practice we can all do to look after our mental health, feed our creative fire, express ourselves and connect with our inner world and the community around us.

Reconnecting with your creativity and finding your creative flow brings many benefits including reducing stress, feeling connected and more positive.  Giving yourself permission to create purely for your own nourishment is a powerful

self-care practice.

Research in the medical field suggests that making art and being creative is very useful for our mental and physical well-being.  More than 100 studies have shown that creative expression has a powerful impact on health and well-being. Most of these studies agree that being creative and making art can decrease depressive symptoms, increase positive emotions and reduce stress responses.

We live in a world where we are judged based on the grades we get on our art homework and exams at school, judged by those around us and fed messages that we are not good enough.  Our inner critic can be the worst,  making us feel unworthy and this can lead to the belief that we are no good at art, giving up our innate right to create.  But the truth is there’s no such thing as bad art!

Making art is pure self expression, a way of making sense of the our inner & outer worlds.  Bringing more joy into our lives by connecting with our inner child.  We can use art to process emotion, express our feelings, be mindful, relax and de-stress, as a healthy form of escapism as well as for the joy of being creative in the flow.
